Essentials of Grounding in Yoga - Seated Poses

“Classic poses, when practised with discrimination & awareness bring the body, mind and consciousness into a single harmonious whole.”

Asana  (आसन) – the Sanskrit term for a pose in yoga, literally translates to “position of sitting”.

Hence, yoga essentially means how you place yourself. In yoga practice, just as the bare feet develop a new relationship with the ground through the practice of standing asanas, the hip, pelvic joints, and lower spine develop a new relationship with the earth when you bear weight directly on them in sitting postures.

These yoga asanas loosen up the back, maintaining good health and increase vitality. These poses also very important for making the back muscles supple and strong, compressing and messaging the abdominal organs, including the liver, kidneys, pancreas and intestines, and stretching the leg muscles and tendons.

These poses tends to focus more on flexibility than strength.
