  • Have completed the 100-Hour Yoga Foundations Course.
  • Have at least 6 to 8 months of regular Hatha Yoga practice.
  • Want to explore a deeper level of practice before becoming a teacher.
  • Want to understand yoga from a classical and traditional perspective.

Course Objective
​The aim of this training is to provide a clear and comprehensive understanding of the principles and fundamentals of Haṭha Yoga. By the end of the course, you will have the knowledge and practical ability to apply a complete integrated yoga sequence in your own life and teaching.

Course Structure
This training is built as a skill-based learning pathway. It combines theory, practical application, observation, and supervised teaching experience to help you integrate yoga knowledge with lived practice.
Part A Yoga Knowledge/Philosophy (Yoga Darshan)
Module 1: Principles and Fundamentals of Yoga
This foundational module introduces students to the core philosophies, principles, and historical context of the yogic tradition, with a special emphasis on the classical texts and Hatha Yoga system.
1.1 Introduction to Yoga and Yogic Practices
  • Etymology and definitions of Yoga from various classical texts
  • Brief overview of the origin, history, and evolution of Yoga
  • Aims, objectives, and common misconceptions about Yoga
  • Introduction to the Shad-darshanas (six classical schools of Indian philosophy), with special reference to Sankhya and Yoga
  • Overview of the four main paths of Yoga: Karma, Bhakti, Jnana, and Raja
  • Fundamental principles of Yoga and yogic living
  • Essential guidelines for instructors

1.2 Introduction to Hatha Yoga
  • Distinction between Yoga Asana and other physical exercise systems
  • Introduction to key Hatha Yoga texts, including:
    – Hatha Yoga Pradipika
    – Gheranda Samhita
  • Understanding the concept of a Yogic diet
  • Study of Sadhaka Tattwa (qualities for success) and Badhaka Tattwa (obstacles to progress) in Hatha Yoga
  • Exploration of the concept of Ghata (the body as a vessel) and Ghata Shuddhi (purification of the body)
  • Purpose and application of:
    – Shat-kriyas (cleansing practices)
    – Asana (postures)
    – Pranayama (breath regulation) in the Hatha Yoga tradition

Part B Yoga Skills (Yoga Abhyasa)
Module 2: Yoga Asana – Technique, Training & Practice (TTP)

This module focuses on building a comprehensive understanding of asana practice, from joint mobility and classical sequences to spinal alignment, anatomy, and therapeutic considerations. Students will develop proficiency in both the theory and execution of foundational postures, while learning to adapt and teach them effectively.
2.1 Joint Mobility & Preparatory Movements

Demonstrated ability to perform basic joint movements to prepare the body for asana practice, including:
  • Neck
  • Shoulders
  • Arms

2.2 Surya Namaskara (Sun Salutation) Variations
​
Proficiency in the following Namaskar Kriyas:
  • Namaskar Kriya 1 – Classical Surya Namaskara
  • Namaskar Kriya 2 – Chandra Namaskara (Moon Salutation)
  • Namaskar Kriya 3 – Ashtanga Yoga Sun Salutation
  • Namaskar Kriya 4 – Integral Yoga Sun Salutation
2.3 Yogasana Sequences – Levels I & II

Module 3: The Science and Art of Pranayama
Pranayama is studied as both a classical discipline and a practical science of breath regulation. This module introduces the meaning, purpose, and effects of breathwork in the yogic tradition.
Foundation of PranayamaYou will explore:
  • The meaning of prana and pranayama.
  • Etymology, purpose, and objectives of the practice.
  • The role of food in pranayama.
  • Common obstacles and supporting factors.
  • The respiratory system, respiration rate, and nostril dominance shifts.
Science and Classical ContextYou will also study:
  • Pranayama in the Yoga Sutra of Patanjali and Hatha Yoga Pradipika.
  • The yogic energy system, including the nadis.
  • The four stages of breathing.
  • Asanas that support pranayama practice.
  • The role of mudras and bandhas in breathwork.
Techniques, Training, and PracticePractical training includes:
  • Abdominal, thoracic, clavicular, and full yogic breathing.
  • Kapalbhati and Bhastrika.
  • Nadi Shodhan and digital pranayama.
  • Anuloma, Pratiloma, Kumbhaka, Bhramari, Surya Bheda, Chandra Bheda, Sheetali, Seetkari, and Ujjayi.

Module 4: Mudra and Bandha
This module introduces the energetic and therapeutic dimensions of mudra and bandha, including their origin, benefits, and application in practice.
Topics covered
  • Definition and purpose of mudras.
  • Mudras in the Gheranda Samhita and Hatha Yoga Pradipika.
  • Introduction to bandhas and their precautions.
  • Practice of Mula Bandha, Uddiyana Bandha, Jalandhara Bandha, and Maha Bandha.

Module 5: Human Anatomy and Physiology
A strong yoga teacher understands how the body functions and how yoga practices affect it. This module deepens your understanding of anatomy and exercise physiology in relation to safe and effective teaching.
You will study:
  • The skeletal, muscular, digestive, respiratory, circulatory, nervous, endocrine, urinary, reproductive, and lymphatic systems.
  • How different limbs of yoga influence the body.
  • Safe application of anatomy knowledge in yoga practice.
  • Cellular respiration, ATP/ADP cycle, and energy systems.
  • Yogic diet and nutrition principles.

​Module 6: Practicum
Teaching develops through observation, practice, and feedback. In this module, you will participate in supervised teaching practice to strengthen confidence and teaching ability.
Practicum includes:
  • Supervised teaching sessions.
  • Observation of qualified teachers.
  • Assisting in classes.
  • Giving and receiving constructive feedback.

Prerequisites
To enrol in the 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training Course, you must have either completed the 100-Hour Yoga Foundations Course or have at least 6 to 8 months of consistent Hatha Yoga practice.

We offer flexible learning options to suit different needs and lifestyles. This makes the training accessible to students with varied schedules and learning preferences.
Mixed Mode
Attend one or two days per week in person at our Chapel Hill studio, combined with guided self-study modules completed in your own time.
Full-Time Intensive
A focused 25-day option is available for students who prefer an immersive learning experience. This format can be discussed during registration.
