About Veena
Principal Educator and Wellness Guide – Sri Ma Yoga School, Australia
E-RYT 500 | Senior Level Teacher (Yoga Australia) | Certified Pilates & Fitness Educator
Born in the culturally rich state of Rajasthan, India, Veena Merz’s journey into yoga and spirituality began in childhood. Educated in a traditional Gurukul-style school, she was immersed in Sanskrit, yogic philosophy, and the spiritual practices that continue to guide her life and teaching.
While deeply rooted in spiritual traditions, Veena initially followed a different professional path. Her career in Information Technology spanned several countries--England, Canada, and Australia—where she worked as an IT Project Manager and Educator. She taught for over a decade at the University of Fraser Valley (Canada) and Queensland University of Technology (Australia). Her time with Oxfam also reflects her lifelong commitment to humanitarian work and social impact.
In 2008, a return to India marked a turning point. There, Veena met Swami Vidyanandaji at the Sri Ma School of Transformational Integral Yoga, whose teachings reignited her connection to yoga. This profound encounter inspired her to leave corporate life and dedicate herself fully to the yogic path.
Veena completed her 500-hour Master Teacher Training in Transformational Integral Yoga under Swami Vidyanandaji’s direct guidance. She further deepened her practice through training in Ashtanga Yoga (Mysore style) and a second 500-hour Teacher Training with Tirisula Yoga School in Singapore, where she also taught and led yoga programs for two years.
Her journey evolved from physical discipline to a holistic, integrative lifestyle. Influenced by the teachings of Shri K. Pattabhi Jois, B.K.S. Iyengar, Swami Sivananda, Swami Satyananda, and Dr. Richard Miller, Veena continues to blend classical wisdom with modern application.
Today, Veena serves as the Principal Teacher of Sri Ma Yoga School in Chapel Hill, Australia, where she brings together her multicultural life experience, deep spiritual insight, and compassionate teaching. She holds credentials as:
Fluent in Hindi and English, and grounded in Sanskrit, Veena creates an authentic, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment—welcoming students of all backgrounds to explore yoga and wellbeing with integrity and joy.
